Aston Villa are ready to hold talks with Luis Suarez and his representatives on a possible return to the Premier League, 90 minutes understand
The Uruguayan legend will leave Atletico Madrid at the end of his contract this summer, playing his last emotional match at Wandra Metropolitano on Sunday night. Although he turned 35 at the start of this year, there is believed to be plenty of interest in securing his services.
90 minutes understands that a number of clubs in North and South America are keen to bring him back across the Atlantic Ocean, having first moved to Europe in 2006. But it is believed the ex-Liverpool and Barcelona star still wants to continue in Europe.
Suarez’s former Liverpool team-mate Steven Gerrard is now considering bringing him to Aston Villa.
Gerrard is set to undergo major team surgery this summer and has already finalized his first contract when Philippe Coutinho signed a permanent deal following an initial loan spell. Besides Gerrard, Coutinho also played with Suarez at Liverpool.
However, Villa aren’t the only party interested in the future free agent.
Suarez’s agents are believed to have attracted interest from elsewhere in Spain, as well as France and Turkey – but he is believed to be interested in exploring the possibility of a move to England and the chance to work with Gerrard in particular should please him. .
Suarez joined Liverpool in January 2011 and left in 2014 when he left for Barcelona. He then spent six hugely successful years in Catalonia, before moving to Atletico in 2020.
