Clément Lenglet supports Antoine Griezmann for the renewal of Barcelona
Barcelona defender Clément Lenglet has lent his support to teammate Antoine Griezmann after an indifferent end to 2020/21.
The pair should play a key role in Didier Deschamps’ France team at Euro 2020 as the Blues pursue a world and European double this summer.
However, Griezmann does not enter the tournament in the best form, despite having scored 13 league goals for Ronald Koeman’s side.
Griezmann’s number of goals dropped after his transfer from Atletico Madrid in 2019, with La Liga’s respective numbers of nine and 13 being their lowest since 2012.
But despite his scrutiny at Camp Nou, Lenglet is confident the 30-year-old can return to his best in 2021.
“He is a very important player for Barca, who made us change the game on the right wing, especially in the Copa del Rey,” he said in an interview with L’Equipe, as reported via Marca.
“He has the label of the best player in the world and the standards are very high for him.
“He was not always judged reasonably.”
Griezmann still has three years on his current contract in Catalonia, however, with the arrival of Sergio Aguero and a potential transfer for Memphis Depay, he will be under pressure in Koeman’s eyes.
