Experienced midfielder and team captain Sergio Busquets will be replaced by Barcelona, who have already found their replacement.
Relevo report that Barcelona’s sporting management are exploring the possibility of bringing in Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante as a potential replacement for the Spaniard.
Kante had hamstring surgery not too long ago and as a result, he won’t be able to take part in the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
ESPN claimed earlier that Barcelona have stepped up their search for a new midfielder to take on Sergio Busquets’ role so they can land a new player in January.
Barca explored the possibility of acquiring Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad and Ruben Neves from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer of 2018. Both of these players were seen as possible replacements for Frenkie de Jong should he move to the Premier League .
However, De Jong has made it clear that he wants to continue playing for Barcelona despite the team pressuring him to accept either an out-of-country transfer or a pay cut.
A few months later, however, as Barcelona begin to prepare for life without Busquets as club captain, they find themselves once again in the market for a deep midfielder.
Busquets will be out of contract at the end of the current season and has come under scrutiny for mistakes made in recent defeats to Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Bayern. Busquets won’t have a contract at the end of the current season.
The Catalan club were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League following Inter Milan’s victory over Viktoria Plzen. Thanks to this, the Catalan club will now play in the Europa League.
