Graphene is one of the boundary materials featured in several PUZZLE X innovations. Graphene textiles enable next-generation conductive biosensors capable of monitoring health parameters and regulating temperature. The Swedish company Grafren AB will present a pair of heated gloves made of graphene coated fabric.

The construction also benefits from the properties of graphene. Versarien, will discuss the benefits of graphene enriched concrete with improved mechanical properties, such as flexural strength, which also reduced CO2 emissions during its manufacture.

Arevo, which is reinventing the way composite parts are made for production and scale, develops ultra-strong, ultralight products. Innovations on display include the world’s first continuous carbon fiber, a bespoke lounge chair that will be on the PUZZLE X stage and a 3D printed bike.

Print a new world
PUZZLE X will showcase companies combining 3D printing and Deep Tech Materials. The Spanish company REGEMAT 3D is working on bio-printers capable of printing personalized tissues such as cartilage, skin, bones or muscles, adapted to each patient and each medical condition.

The potential of 3D printing is also reaching the food industry where Barcelona-based Novameat prints steaks made from peas, seaweed and beet juice. This substitute could have a significant impact on the environment because the global impact of animal husbandry is significant and accounts for nearly 15% of all human-made greenhouse gas emissions, according to the Organization for the food and agriculture.

Air pollution is an environmental challenge taken up by Planet Airo, the German start-up behind the Airo, an air purifier that can be attached to a bicycle that filters the air while driving. The Airo uses an innovative carbon mesh to adsorb, trap and break down pollutants turning bikes into mobile purifiers.
