Over four days, more than 1,900 companies joined MWC22 Barcelona to showcase the role of mobile technology in unleashing connectivity, exploring 5G Connect sponsored by Salesforce, Advancing AI, Internet of Everything, CloudNet by Kyndryl, FinTech and Horizon Tech.
The thought leadership of entrepreneurs, government ministers and extraordinary people pushing the limits of our imagination was expressed on all stages of the event. From traditional industries to award-winning filmmakers, speakers challenged and inspired attendees to think of new ways to leverage technology.
Vertical collaboration, startup innovation and more at MWC22
Again this year, the MWC’s ministerial program has been at the center of the global debate on digital policy. With more than 160 delegations from countries and international institutions around the world, policymakers, regulators, industry leaders and the international development community exchanged experiences and views on how to develop policies for a digital world, to maximize the potential of 5G and to bridge the digital divide. , and achieve global climate goals. As the world becomes increasingly digital, there has been broad consensus that we need more collaboration and cooperation among all stakeholders to expand digital inclusion for all. This year, leaders like Jessica RosenworcelPresident of the American FCC, and Minister Paula Ingabire of the Rwanda not only contributed to the conversation as part of the ministerial program, but also presented their political priorities at the MWC opening address stage.
Brand new for this year’s edition, Industry City, co-presented with knowledge partner Accenture, featured demos from the FinTech, manufacturing and automotive sectors. With a buzz of activity, Industry City was an essential space for the event. Visitors had the opportunity to experience a range of summits covering robotics and smart mobility topics through interactive tours of the metaverse and demonstrations from partners and the GSMA Foundry program.
The 4YFN (Four Years from Now) program – backed by platinum sponsor BStartup Banco Sabadell – focused on the local entrepreneurial startup community, as it hosted over 500 international startups and over 300 speakers to share their ideas on how to move the ecosystem forward. Competing for more than €24 billion in investments, 200 startups pitched to leading funds, VCs and CVCs at the event.

Local initiatives such as Meet and Eat and Beat Barcelona showcased the best in town. Preliminary economic analysis indicated that MWC will have contributed over €240 million to Barcelona’s economy and created over 6,700 part-time jobs in 2022. And again, MWC was a carbon-neutral event .
To look forward
Following the success of MWC22 Barcelona, the GSMA is working hard to deliver the full MWC series in 2022. The next event, MWC Shanghai, will take place from June 29 to July 1, followed by the first MWC Las Vegas from September 28 to 30 and completed by MWC Africa from October 25 to 27 – who will return in person to Kigali for the first time since 2019.
As the mobile industry gathered this week at MWC22, our thoughts were with those suffering hardship and loss.
