Hostelco 2022 focuses on sustainability and technology to kick-start the future of the sector


Hostelco, the international exhibition of equipment for restaurants, hotels and communities, which will be held from April 4 to 7, 2022 at the Gran Vía site of the Fira de Barcelona alongside Alimentaria, will present the latest innovations in terms of products, technologies and solutions to improve the durability, control, use and maintenance of equipment in order to meet the new challenges of an industry in full transformation and to contribute to the revival of the sector.

The leading fair in Spain and a European reference in its specialty, organized by Fira de Barcelona and Felac (the Spanish Federation of Associations of Machinery Manufacturers for the Hospitality, Communities and Related Industries) will present the latest innovations in machinery and equipment for the Horeca channel resulting from the investments made in R&D&I by supplier companies in a sector that requires instruments and solutions that are increasingly efficient and easily adaptable to the needs of each customer in terms of design, savings energy and remote management through the application of IoT systems.

As in the previous event, Hostelco will join forces with Restaurama, the Alimentaria fair dedicated to the catering and food sector, to form one of the largest international platforms of products and services for the Horeca channel, composed proposals from around 600 direct and represented companies, including the main equipment and catering companies, which will occupy halls 4, 6 and 7 of Gran Via.

Hostelco’s offer will largely consist of fully equipped sector, with equipment, machinery and accessories for the hospitality industry, the most represented sector at the fair, Settingthe space dedicated to kitchen utensils and table service, Momentsgrouping proposals for products and equipment related to cafes, pastries, bakeries, pizzas and ice cream, and Technology, with a range of software, technology and entertainment products. With the aim of generating the maximum opportunities for its customers, the fair organizes various business programs for exhibitors and invites key buyers to the national and international stages with specific purchasing projects. The professionals invited to visit Hostelco and Restaurama include 1,100 strategic buyers, mainly importers, distributors and purchasing managers of hotel and restaurant chains and mainly from Europe, including Spain, Germany, the Countries Netherlands, France, Italy and Portugal, among other countries.

Hostelco will host various exhibition, business, knowledge sharing and debate spaces with value propositions to complement the commercial offering, including Hotel Hostelco Livewhich will recreate the main rooms of a hotel with the latest innovations in interior design and equipment, and Hostelco Live Arena, the space dedicated to knowledge and debate which will host conferences by experts from the hotel industry. Speakers will include professionals from CEHAT-ITH (Spanish Confederation of Hotel and Tourist Accommodation and Hotel Technological Institute), a Hostelco partner, who will offer new approaches to key industry issues hotel industry, and others that will cover content related to customer experience, specialized professional training, sustainability, the rise of the delivery sector, new marketing strategies and how technological innovation is transforming the management of services and establishments engaged in tourism and catering. This space will also host B2B business meetings between customers and strategic buyers.

Hostelco, Restaurama and Alimentaria will share some of the most important activities taking place at the show, including The Experience Live Gastronomy, a live event led by more than 30 highly prestigious chefs. The Experience will once again host the finals of major international competitions such as the Chef of the Year Competition and the Waiter of the Year Competition.

The Spanish equipment industry, on the road to recovery

According to the latest economic study carried out by Felac (the Spanish Federation of Associations of Machinery Manufacturers for Hospitality, Communities and Related Industries), the turnover of the 130 companies that are part of this group amounted to 1 393.50 million euros in 2020 due to the health crisis, 26% less than in 2019.

However, the hospitality sector started its recovery in the second quarter of 2021”at a double-digit rate thanks to the reactivation of demand,” said Rafael Olmos, president of Felac and Hostelco. “In an environment conditioned by the evolution of the pandemic and other factors, we expect to continue on the path of recovery throughout 2022 and return to our pre-Covid numbers as soon as possible.” In this context, he added that “the ownership of Hostelco and Alimentaria is doubly strategic, because the sum of the two will shape the largest in-person business center in the country, facilitating business transactions, networking, advertising of innovation, training and sustainability and give a huge boost to the sector”.

Alimentaria and Hostelco will occupy a total area of ​​around 85,000 m2 and will bring together around 3,000 exhibiting companies, creating one of the largest international platforms and a reference for the food industry, gastronomy and catering equipment, because it will present the most complete and cross-cutting range of products from the national and international markets to the distribution chain and the Horeca channel.
