Real Betis respond to rumors they are in talks for Arsenal star Hector Bellerin
Real Betis general manager Federico Martinez Feria has denied speculation the club are in talks to sign Hector Bellerin but admits the The Arsenal defender would be a “perfect fit” for them this summer.
Bellerin, 26, is one of many Arsenal first-team players deemed to be surplus to requirements, with Mikel Arteta intending to recast his squad after a miserable 2020/21 campaign both domestically and in Europe.
The Spain international has started 24 games in the Premier League this season, but there is a general feeling that he has fallen short of expectations since arriving on the scene as a precocious youngster in 2013.
Reports coming out of Spain this week suggest Betis identified Bellerin as one of their main targets at right-back after being alerted to a potential deal, with head coach Manuel Pellegrini likely in need of a replacement for Emerson Royal, bound for Barcelona.
Bellerin is a longtime supporter of Sevilla outfit despite his childhood in Catalonia and talks about a one-season loan deal have reportedly progressed well.
However, Betis chief Martinez Feria wasted no time in keeping the club away from recent rumors by speaking at a UEFA event in Madrid.
“We are not making, and I say this emphatically, an effort to sign the player,” he said.
“However, he is one of the positions that we are looking for and is a player who suits us perfectly.
“He could be a candidate, but we’re not talking to Arsenal about Bellerin at the moment.”
Martinez Feria added: “ The summer transfer window is known for its fair share of fake news.
“In general, if you analyze it all at the end, the percentage that comes true is low.
Bellerin has made 239 appearances for the Gunners since joining the first team, helping the club win three FA Cups and three Community Shields.
Juventus have also been tentatively linked with Bellerin, who Arsenal have reportedly valued at around £ 35million.
The full-back – who has been selected four times by the Spanish national team – is linked with a contract with the Emirates until 2023.
