Smart City Expo 2022 recovers pre-pandemic numbers and faces its biggest edition yet

The International Cities Summit will also include the Tomorrow.Mobility and Tomorrow.Building events

Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC), the main international event on smart cities and urban solutions organized by Fira de Barcelona, will welcome more than 1,000 exhibitors on its 11and edition, held from November 15 to 17, 2022. Under the theme Cities inspired by people, the show and congress will feature pre-pandemic personalities and will take place in two halls at the Gran Via site in Barcelona. The congress program will focus on the tools and strategies at hand that local governments, organizations and citizens can seize to ensure a better future for cities and for generations to come.

The event will bring together over 400 leading international experts to share their knowledge and address the many challenges of urban transformation. In a scenario with ever-increasing environmental challenges and a geostrategic shift in the global stage, city leaders need to think about how cities can do their part to make the world a better place. To cover all possibilities, the SCEWC Congress program will be structured into eight themes: Economy, Enabling Technologies, Energy and Environment, Governance, Infrastructure and Buildings, Life and Inclusion, Mobility and Safety and Security.

Smart City Expo World Congress Director Ugo Valenti said that “six months from the opening of Smart City Expo 2022, we have already reserved 80% of the exhibition area and expect more than 24,000 participants in November. This will take us back to pre-pandemic numbers, highlighting not only the importance of cities for the future of humanity and the planet, but also that Smart City Expo is the go-to global event for the vast ecosystem of the urban transformation, now more than ever. .”

Infrastructure and Mobility
Among the key topics involved in the design and construction of smart cities are efficient infrastructure and rapid mobility. These two subjects will have their own events organized within the framework of the SCEWC. The second edition of Tomorrow.Mobility will focus on promoting the design and adoption of new models of sustainable urban mobility. Co-organized by EIT Urban Mobility, an initiative of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology, a body of the European Union, the event also benefits from the support of leading companies and institutions.

With this in mind, the 2022 edition of the SCEWC will see the launch of Tomorrow.Building, a new space focused on new technological solutions related to construction, such as 3D printing, robotics, IoT and BIM (Building Information Modelling), as well as new materials. The primary goal is to create the perfect forum for disruptive new ideas in the broad construction and hard infrastructure industry to thrive.

Innovative materials, bricks of tomorrow
The SCEWC will also host PUZZLE X for the second time. After a successful debut in 2021, Barcelona will host a new edition of an event that aims to capture the potential of Frontier Materials to solve some of the challenges facing society. Among the key technologies showcased are quantum materials, low-dimensional materials, 2D materials like graphene, advanced materials and smart composites, which have been shown to have great potential for impact in sectors such as energy. , mobility, health, transport, construction, electronics, Textile and Connectivity, among others.
