Super-agent steps in to keep Ten Hag private as Barcelona agenda emerges

The chances of Diogo Dalot leaving Man Utd for Barcelona have recently been played down, although the topic has been revived in new reports suggesting a different outcome.

Dalot is in the final year of his contract with Man Utd. He has become more important to them than ever in recent months, establishing himself as Erik ten Hag’s first-choice right-back.

The Portugal international has started all 12 Premier League games since Ten Hag took charge this summer, as well as all five Europa League games.

Given his return to form and his contract situation, European clubs have turned to full-back. Barcelona are among his main suitors as they look to improve on what they already have in his position.

That said, a recent report revealed that Man Utd would say a firm ‘no’ to any Barcelona advance in the January transfer window for Dalot.

In theory, he could sign a pre-contract with them as soon as the new year begins. To avoid this, however, Man Utd could activate a one-year option to extend his contract before this date.

The Red Devils would in turn look to negotiate a longer term commitment if they are happy to continue with Dalot, which appears to be the case.

However, Mundo Deportivo insists there’s still a chance Dalot will end up at Barcelona. In fact, the player’s agent Jorge Mendes could use his good relationship with the La Liga side to land his client at Camp Nou.

Mendes is said to be exploring the possibility of sending Dalot to Barcelona, just like many agents who consider moving their players to the Catalonian club.

Diogo Dalot’s departure would be untimely for Man Utd

Knowing that the right-back is currently a weak point for Barcelona, the idea of Dalot going there might make sense. It would also fit with the Blaugrana’s recent policy of targeting free agents or those about to become free agents.

Whether Man Utd losing Dalot just as they were starting to see the best in him would be a blow.

The club are already working on possible right-back signings. For example, they were linked to people like Max Aarons or Jérémie Frimpong.

Frimpong is also believed to be on Chelsea’s radarmeaning Man Utd may have to speed up their plans if they don’t want to miss out.

However, in each case they thought of replacing Aaron Wan-Bissaka, not Dalot. Their intention is still to keep the former AC Milan loanee and give him some extra competition.

Barcelona clearly have other ideas and Mundo Deportivo does not exclude the idea that they get what they want.

Dalot, however, remains happy at Man Utd so he could still choose to stay. Only time will tell which avenue he goes down.
