Tunisia explodes five attempts to cross the Mediterranean
The Tunisian coast guard on Sunday thwarted five attempts at illegal migration across the Mediterranean, reports Webdo Tunis.
A naval security unit stationed in Monastir, on the central coast of Tunisia and 162 kilometers south of Tunis, seized seven engines, 3 boats and a quantity of fuel. They also arrested the occupants, including seven Tunisians from the coastal city and dozens of nationals from sub-Saharan countries.
In another report, another boat carrying 31 people capsized near Al-Baghdadi beach, also in Monastir governorate. Seven people were rescued from the waters while 22 were missing.
The boat was crossing the sea towards the Italian coast. Tunisians constitute the largest number of migrants reaching Italy.
